Park Tours![]() Spring hike, courtesy Wynter Byrd Preview hikes at Red Mountain Park offer everyone the chance to enjoy the property and get a sneak peek at the park before it actually opens to the public. The hikes are free and family-friendly, and dogs are welcome on a leash. We’ve taken over 3,000 people on preview hikes so far, so come check it out! We’re currently leading hikes on the 3rd Sunday of each month, from October through April. Each hike will offer three different routes for visitors of all levels of fitness and interest to enjoy. The tour dates of the upcoming series are:
Time: All tours depart at 2pm. Please try to arrive at least 15 minutes before the tour departs to sign in and meet your guides. Location: Meet at the cul-de-sac at the end of Frankfurt Drive. Frankfurt is off of Lakeshore Parkway. Heading West on Lakeshore from I-65, Frankfurt Drive is 1.4 miles past its intersection with West Oxmoor Rd (3rd right turn and there is a traffic light; please see map above). Across the street from the Frankfurt turn is a small shopping center with a Subway and nail salon. Park along Frankfurt. [View on Google Maps]. Routes: We will be offering three route options for each public hike. We are in the process of expanding the trail system with some great volunteers, so every route will highlight new trails and points of historical interest! Which route you take depends mainly on your fitness level and the amount of time you want to spend at the park.
The trails are a combination of old rail beds, jeep roads, and new single track through the woods. You will be accompanied by volunteer guides who will be pointing out historical features and answering questions. Please bring water and wear good walking shoes or boots. Dress appropriately for the weather. Contact: Email us if you have any questions. If you’d like to bring a group, come on! Please let us know the date you prefer and the size of your group. Park staff will also try to accommodate larger groups (schools, Garden Clubs, etc.) by scheduling private tours to suit your organization’s needs. If your group is interested in a private tour, please email Executive Director Dave Dionne. |
